THE NON-PROFIT CORPORATION

WELCOME FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The Lake Erie International Model United Nations Corporation (LEIMUN) Board of Trustees would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the portion of our website that is dedicated to our non-profit corporation. LEIMUN is the 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit corporation created to maintain and administer the program previously known as the Kent State Ashtabula Model United Nations Program (KSUAC-MUNC). The corporation has its headquarters in Ashtabula, Ohio. It conducts conferences and corporate events throughout Northeast Ohio.

Since its creation in 2000, LEIMUN has helped to make the conferences that they sponsor two of the most sought after Model United Conferences in the Midwest. The Northcoast High School Conference is held in late March each year. The Lake Erie College Conference is held in late October/early November each year. There have also been discussions regarding launching a third conference during the year, though which direction this conference might take has yet to be determined. Among the possibilities are an "alumni" conference that would be open open to anyone who has ever participated in one of our other conferences, a second high school conference in a different location, or a conference for Junior High participants.

While operating two highly sought after conferences each year is the most important thing that LEIMUN does, it is not the only thing that we do. We have also sponsored guest speakers and panel discussions on current international issues. We are always willing to consider sponsoring and/or operating other internationally themed events should they present themselves to us.

We offer training workshops to interested high school and college Model United Nations teams. We offer this service whether the team does or does not attend our conferences. We also permit our Rules of Procedure to be used at other Model United Nations conferences upon request. LEIMUN staff volunteers frequently assist with the operations of other Model United Nations conferences. Among these are  UNA-USA, Cleveland Council on World Affairs MUN, Buffalo Niagara World Connect MUN, Canisius College MUN, St. Bonaventure University MUN, Lakeland Community College MUN, Youngstown State University MUN, UN/USA (Jefferson High School), East Juniata High School MUN, and NEIMUN.

We have also established the LEIMUN Scholarship Fund, which awards two scholarships annually. We are continually seeking out other mechanisms through which our organization can become a better corporate citizen.

We hope that you will read more of the information provided about our corporation. The Northcoast and Lake Erie conferences could not continue to be as successful as they are without LEIMUN as the backbone. We hope that your interest will be piqued enough that you will consider becoming a LEIMUN Member and assisting us fulfill our mission.
