LEIMUN: A NON-PROFIT CORPORATION

LEADERSHIP

The Lake Erie International Model United Nations Corporation is administered by a 5-member Board of Trustees. The Trustees have taken on the conference planning and operating responsibilities formerly handled by Dr. Hammond and Kent State University, as well as taking on the responsibilities of operating the non-profit corporation. Trustee are Gold Members of the corporation, who are elected ny the Gold and Silver Members, to 3-year terms on a rotating basis.

 

Each year, the Trustees elect three individuals to serve in the corporate offices of President, Chief Administrative Officer, and Chief Financial Officer. From time to time, they may also elect individuals to serve as Chairman, Vice President, Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, Assistant Chief Financial Officer, or other positions as necessary. Individuals need not be LEIMUN Members or Trustees to serve as a corporate officers, though it is preferred.

 

Each year, the Trustees appoint one individual to serve as Secretary-General and four individuals to serve as Corporate Directors. The Secretary-General is primarily responsible for assisting with conference administration. The Directors are responsible for specific organizational areas - Research, Recruitment, Staff Development, and Fund Raising. Individuals need not be LEIMUN Members to serve in these positions, though it is preferred. Trustees may not serve in these positions.

 

BOARD OF TRUSTEES & CORPORATE OFFICERS

James W. Bacher is currently serving his second term on the Board of  Trustees. James was elected to his first term in 2002 and his second term in 2005. While on the Board of Trustees, James has served as Webmaster, Registrar, Chief Financial Officer, and President. Prior to his terms on the Board, James served the organization in multiple conference positions including Secretary-General and as a member of the Advisory Council, Rules Revision Committee, Bylaws Revision Committee, Development Committee, Handbook Committee, and Governance Committee. He was also instrumental in creating the organization's first website and electronic registration program. James became involved with this organization as a college delegate in 1996 when he served as the President of the Kent State University Model United Nations team. He became a staff volunteer immediately thereafter. His current term ends in October 2008.

James is a gradaute of Geneva High School. He earned a BA in Political Science and Communications from Kent State University, a JD/MPA from Syracuse University, and a LLM in Law and Government specializing in Business Law from American University. He lives in New York City, where he is an Associate with Callan, Koster, Brady & Brennan, LLP specializing in Business Transactions and Civil Defense Litigation. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Political Science at Hunter College.

 

Warren Matthew Buckey is currently serving his first term on the Board of Trustees. Warren was elected to his term in 2004. Warren is serving in the position of President. He has also served as Vice President. Prior to his term on the Board, Warren served the orgainzation in multiple conference positions including Secretary-General, on the Advisory Council, and on the Rules Revision Committee. Warren became involved with this organization as a high school delegate in 1984. He became a staff volunteer upon graduating from high school. His term ends in October 2008.

Warren is a graduate of Ashtabula Harbor High School. He attended the Ohio State University where he earned a BA in Political Science and German Literature. He lives in Columbus, Ohio where he is a IT Systems Specialist for the Ohio State University.

 

Pirooz Dadbeh is currently serving his second term on the Board of Trustees. Pirooz was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Board in 2001 and was elected to a full term in 2006. While on the Board, Pirooz has served as Chief Administrative Officer. Prior to his term on the Board, Pirooz served the organization in multiple conference positions including Secretary-General, on the Senior Staff, as a conference Guest Speaker, and on the Rules Revision and Elections Committees. Pirooz became involved with this organization when he was personally invited by Dr. Hammond in 1980 and is considered to be one of the organization's founding fathers. His current term ends in October 2009.

Pirooz was born in Iran and emigrated to the United Kingdom as a teenager. He is a graduate of Christ's College in London, England. He attended the University of Akron, but did not finish his degree in physics because of the Iranian Revolution. He earned an AS in Sciences from North Harris/Montgomery Community College. He lives in Houston, Texas with his wife (Phoebe), son (Micah), and step-daughter (Alexis). He is a Medical Case Manager for AIG Travel Assist.

 

Rita K. Drew is currently serving her second term on the Board of Trustees. Rita was elected to her first term in 2003 and was reelected in 2006. Rita serves as Chief Financial Officer, Webmaster, and Registrar. She has previously served as the Chief Administrative Officer. Prior to her terms on the Board, Rita served the organization in multiple conference positions including Secretary-General, on the Senior Staff and Advisory Council, as Director of Fund Raising, and on several committees including the Rules Revision, Bylaws Revision, Handbook Revision, and Governance. Rita became involved with this organization as President of the Geneva High School MUN Club in 1983. She became a staff volunteer upon graduating from high school. Her current term ends in October 2009.

Rita is a graduate of Geneva High School. She attended the University of Hartford and the University of Akron where she earned a BS in Business Administration and MBAs in International Business and Management. She lives in Cortland, Ohio with her boyfriend (Steve) and his son (Drake). She is the President of Arcady Sales & Consulting.

 

Samantha Drew is currently serving her first term on the Board of Trustees. Samantha was elected in 2007. She serves as Chief Administrative Officer. Prior to her term on the Board, Samantha served the organization in multiple conference positions, as a member of the Advisory Council and as the Director of Staff Development. Samantha became involved with LEIMUN as a high school delegate in 2000. She became a staff volunteer upon graduating from high school. Her term ends in October 2010.

Samantha is a graduate of Geneva High School. She attended Carlow College where she earned a BA in Sociology. She is currently pursuing a MPA at the University of Akron. She lives in Akron, Ohio where she is a Graduate Assistant at the Bureau of Research Training & Services at Kent State University.

 

CORPORATE DIRECTORS & SECRETARY-GENERAL

Daniel A. Ramos is serving as this year's Secretary-General.  In prior years, Dan served in a wide variety of conference positions. He became involved with LEIMUN as a high school delegate. He became a staff volunteer upon graduating from high school. His term ends in June 2009.

Dan is a graduate of Southview High School in Lorain, Ohio. He  attended Baldwin-Wallace College where he received a BA. He currently resides in Berea, Ohio where he is working on the Obama for America campaign.

 

Shannon Hopkins is serving her first term as Director of Recruitment. Prior to becoming a Corporate Director, Shannon served  in several conference positions. She became involved with LEIMUN as a college delegate from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2005. She became a staff volunteer in 2007. Her term ends in June 2009.

Shannon is a graduate of Midview High School in Grafton, Ohio.  She attended Ohio Wesleyan University where she earned a BA in Politics & Government and is a graduate student at Kent State University.  She currently lives in Willoughby, Ohio where she is the Model United Nations Consultant for the Cleveland Council on World Affairs.

 

Andrea D. Norris is serving her fourth term as Director of Research. She also serves as our de facto Staff Training Coordinator. Prior to becoming a Corporate Director, Andrea served in a variety of conference positions including Parliamentarian, as a member of the now-defunct Advisory Council, and created our Rules Quiz(es) and Staff Orientation Guidelines. Andrea became involved with our program as a junior high school delegate in 1995. She became a staff volunteer upon graduating from high school and continued to participate as a college delegate. Her current term ends in June 2009.

Andrea is a graduate of Jefferson Area High School. She attended Hiram College where she earned a BA in History and Political Science and Seton Hall University where she earned her MA in Diplomacy and International Relations. Andrea lives in Takoma Park, Maryland with her daughter (Kiera). She is the Program Coordinator for the International Policy Program at The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC.

 

Monica Perelmuter is serving her first term as Director of Fund Raising. Prior to becoming a Corporate Director, Monica served  on the Board of Trustees, Advisory Council, as Chief Administrative Officer, on the Development Committee, and in a wide variety of conference positions. She became involved with our program as a high school delegate in the late 1980s. She became a staff volunteer upon graduating from high school. Her current term ends in June 2009.

Monica is a graduate of Bay Village High School. She did her undergraduate work at the University of Michigan and and did her graduate work at Yale University. Monica lives in New York, NY where she is a Credit Analyst for Standard & Poor's.

 

Drew Zoretich is serving his second term as Director of Staff Development. Prior to becoming a Corporate Director, Drew served in several conference positions, including Secretary-General, as well as on the Elections Committee and Advisory Council. He became involved wth LEIMUN as a college delegate in 2002. He became a staff volunteer immediately thereafter. His term ends in June 2009.

Drew is a graduate of Woodland Hills High School in Pittsburgh. He attended Edinboro University. He currently lives in Atlanta, GA where he is an In Flight Specialist for Delta Airlines.
