WELCOME FROM THE SECRETARY GENERAL
Greetings delegates, advisors, and staff! I would like to take the opportunity to welcome you to the 33rd annual Lake Erie International Model United Nations Conference! I am humbly honored to have the opportunity to serve as your Secretary-General this year.
In his address to participants at the UNA-USA MUN conference last year, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged participants to “remember that the word ‘model’ has a number of meanings. In the context of this diplomatic exercise […]it can mean ‘a small copy.’ But I prefer another of its meanings: ‘a praiseworthy example to be copied.’”
It is with these thoughts in mind that I leave you to begin your preparation for what I believe will be another exciting and enlightening LEIMUN conference. I encourage each of you to prepare fully for what lies ahead: to truly explore the agenda topics selected for your committee and to devote yourself fully to the research and understanding of not just your own perspective, but the perspective of other nations and cultures.
I encourage you to dwell upon the words of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon: will you make this conference just another model of the United Nations, or will you strive to do more?
Should you have questions, comments, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
Until the spring, I remain respectfully yours,
Abigail Krivak
Secretary-General
